KEEN has been doing things differently since 2003.

It started with the Newport, a hybrid sandal with a closed toe box that didn't quite fit any existing category. Part water shoe, part trail shoe, fully its own thing. That willingness to ignore the rulebook turned out to be less of a product decision and more of a personality trait.

Family-owned and independent, that spirit shows up in the decisions KEEN makes, including the ones that cost money. In their very first year, KEEN redirected $1 million of their advertising budget toward relief efforts after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. For a one-year-old company, that's a real choice with real consequences. It also turned out to be the first of many.

Shoes Made With Intention

KEEN footwear is built for the full range of life outside: trails, construction sites, riverbanks, city pavements. Comfort and longevity come first, which means every material choice matters.

Construction details like heat-and-pressure bonding instead of toxic glue, 100% recycled content where it's used, and pesticide-free odour control aren't extras bolted on for optics. They're part of how KEEN thinks about making a shoe that lasts and leaves less behind.

KEEN has also been free of PFAS, the synthetic compounds that persist in both the environment and the body, since 2018. That put them ahead of the industry, and they've since shared what they learned to help others follow.

Made for the Way You Actually Live

KEEN's sweet spot is that rare overlap between functional and genuinely good-looking. These are shoes you reach for on a trail and don't think twice about wearing to lunch afterwards. Shoes that fit a life that moves between places, moods, and moments without needing to change.

That ease isn't accidental. KEEN designs around real people doing real things: hiking, building, exploring, wandering. The result is footwear that feels at home wherever you take it.
